1. When Chris applies for a job at McDonald's I initially felt as though he wanted to once again be in the presence of humans. He may have felt as though things might have changed so he wanted to better understand what he was leaving. I was not extremely shocked at the site of this because most people go through a mental relapse of what they are doing and I immediately believed he was having one. I believe he applies for a job such as this because this was either a childhood memory based area and/or it was the most convenient job that he could have done. There have been many memories that I have partaken of wherein I was at a fast-food restaurant; furthermore I believe that he was at a McDonalds when he had such memories. Additionally, this may have been either the most convenient area or the only place that hired him. Colleagues describe Chris as "The sweetest little thing"(44) and "He was reliable though a body that would show up everyday"(40) said Lori Zarza the manager of McDonalds. Overall Chris did not pay attention to most of them but he was especially fond of Burres, constantly flirting with her and giving her attention. Personally, if I was one of Chris's co-workers I would not enjoy my job at all because Chris seemed as though he had a bolt loose when he was at work. Furthermore, I would be really uneasy and not know what to expect next because it seems as though he was always doing something without any reason.
2. Considering the way Chris is to most people I strictly believe that he was most fond of Jan and Bob Burrs because he had a liking towards Jan and Bob was really nice to him. Throughout the book thus far we have come to find that most people have been nice to him out of pity Now, Jan and Bob were being nice to him because they actually cared about who he was. I believe that Chris understood this and appreciated the generous attention that he was receiving it. We know that Chris if fairly smart he must of understood that this relationship does not happen often.
3. Later on in the story we come to find that Ronald Franz, an eighty year old man intersected paths with Chris in the months of 1992. Ronald developed a strong relationship with Chris almost immediately and i believe this happens because Franz had no family left on the earth. He had little to no friends and hardly anyone to even talk to. Once Chris came it gave him so many opportunities that he was thrilled with his circumstances. We later come to find that Franz even went to the extent of asking Chris to allow Franz to adopt him. Franz says "When I'm gone , my family will be finished, gone forever. So i asked Alex if I could adopt him, if he would be my grandson"(55). Once Franz states this, we immediately understand the deep relationship that Franz believed they shared.

2. After reading his note, I am actually astonished because I thought he was running from his parents for awhile. I didn't think that he wanted his parents to know were he was at during any point of his trip. On the other hand I think it was expected. Although I figured he was running from his life, he cared abut his family and wanted to show them how he did before leaving. Maybe the note was to show that he wasn't crazy when he started the journey. When he says that he is going o disappear for awhile, I truly believe that he was running from something. A person in their right mind does not want to "disappear" unless they are running and/or hiding from something or someone.
3. After further review of what Chris did before embarking on his epic journey, I believe that he was looking for a way out of life. He no longer liked what was happening and he might of been fleeing from something. From what we know, Chris lived a normal life and nothing harmful came about him. To leave with no reason is phenomenal and in no place reasonable. Considering he was in college at this time, I do not think that he left for the soul reason to be around nature. We know that he truly loves everything about nature but this is not the reason he left his life. If this was, why not just study it in college. There are many careers that go hand in hand with the studying and preserving of nature. Overall, I believe that his soul reason for doing what he did is to flee something or someone. I do not know what but this is the only valid explanation that the text is offering me.
